Pivoting the Centre: African Canadian History in Contemporary Life and Education
Sponsored by the Humber Diversity Committee
With discussions about Black-focused schools at the top of both the educational and political agendas, the call for an inclusive curriculum has never been more resounding. Methodologically, the study of history lends itself as a crucial tool in bringing about such a curriculum. My discussion will explore the importance and relevance of Canadian Black history in a multicultural society. It will also investigate some of the ways in which such a history can be placed, along with other histories, at the centre of historical inquiry.

Social Engineering & Online Identity Theft
Social Engineering is the term used by hackers to describe attempts to obtain information about computer systems through non-technical means. In most cases, hackers will telephone unsuspecting users, and through a series of ruses, ask the user to divulge their user identifiers and passwords. While these techniques may seem ridiculous, they produce extremely valuable information and reveal the ways in which Social Engineer-ing specifically targets weaknesses in information systems, security plans, procedures and poor security awareness. Included in the paper is a discussion of typical attacks, as well as a description of methods for preventing attacks.
